We usually add -ed to regular verbs to form the past tense. The spelling sometimes changes a little:

Verbs ending in a vowel + consonant
double the consonant +ed
stop→ stopped

To show what happened in the past, we often use words or phrases like yesterday, last night, three weeks ago, this morning, in the past, in the previous day, etc.
Mum cooked us a delicious breakfast this morning.
Last night, the children fell asleep as soon as they got into bed.
The students studied very hard for the test yesterday.
Last year, my little sister and I were not tall enough to ride the roller coaster
Jennifer tidied her room this morning.
I did not see did not see Mr Chan because he was standing behind a wall.
