The use of the tense:

  1. Action happen regularly
    e.g. I always eat fruits after dinner.
  2. General truth
    e.g. Water boils at 100°C.
  3. Thoughts, feelings and opinions
    e.g. I guess she is sick.

The form of the tense:

  • With the verb be, we form positive and negative sentences as below:
Subject be (is/ am/ are)
I am a student.
am not (‘m not) a teacher.
You are my good friend.
are not (aren’t) my enemy.
He/ She/ It is very smart.
is not (isn’t) stupid.
We/ You/ They are from Hong Kong
are not ( aren’t ) from America.
